A Belarusian percussionist with the Chinese name Wei Jia has given a thumbs up to the living environment in Qidong, a county-level city in Nantong, East China"s Jiangsu province.

After graduating from the Belarusian State Academy of Music in 2011, Wei achieved his dream of becoming a percussionist. In 2017, he came to China and started teaching percussion even though he did not know Chinese.

"I love percussion music as well as China and I believe music is a language that can cross national borders," said Wei.

Following years of living in China, Wei has improved his Chinese. He even married a Nantong native named Dai Xiaoli in 2019.

Wei is presently the chief percussionist at the Qidong-Poly art ensemble. This non-profit ensemble, which was jointly set up by Qidong Poly Grand Theater and PR Piano Art Studio, provides free art performances to the public. It is also the first percussion ensemble in the county.

Wei hopes that more people will get to know and experience the charm of percussion instruments through his performances.

Apart from the artistic atmosphere in Qidong, Wei also likes the local delicacies, especially the seafood dishes.

Wei said he is enjoying his life in Qidong and is considering settling down here with his wife.
